Defense against Multiple Roundhouse Kicks

http://youtu.be/y9gAQEdiVVI

This is a drill that comes in two parts; attacker and defender. The drill teaches many things and I practice it regularly.

The idea is that the attacker initiates several roundhouse kicks from neutral to the defender.

The defender,  as soon as the initial roundhouse kick is launched, slams is floating block into the attacker’s shin, The defender draws is rear leg forward and strikes the attacker with a lead arm Backfist. The defender steps back slightly and follows up with a roundhouse kick of his own to the groin.

It is at this point that the defender disengages and withdraws with his guard up

Floating Block with Full Slide in Roundhouse Kick

http://youtu.be/nUmeK8OXP1k

This is a basic defense drill executed against a slide in roundhouse kick to the abdomen. The attacker slides in, kicks and slides back.

The defender blocks the kick and as the attacker withdraws, the defender follows with a slide in counter kick.

Groin Defense against a Hard Driving Front Kick with Full Advance and Jab Follow-up

http://youtu.be/lWbD1xLJD2I

The attacker kicks and then falls forward to follow the kick with a same side punch.

The defender kneels as he drives his palm heel into the attacker’s leg where the ankle meets it. The defender holds his other hand high as a precaution against the jab. He steps back and kicks.

Groin Defense against a Hard Driving Front Kick with Full Withdrawal

http://youtu.be/Tc8WmFFI1cg

This is pretty much the same defense I showed a couple of days ago. The main differences are the attacking kick is hard and heavy and done with the rear leg. The counter is also done with my rear leg.

A Simple Stationary Groin Defense against a Slide in Front Kick to the Groin

http://youtu.be/5cDL1kItzUU

So far this week I dealt with groin kicks that finished the kicker at kicking distance (or further). Today, as the kicker finishes the kick to the groin, he falls into his same side punch to the face.

As the defender, I kneel and palm heel block the kick. As I rise up, I use my other hand to brush the punch out of the way before counter punching. I follow-up this counter with a shift away front kick before withdrawing.

Intermediate Defense against a Front Kick to the Groin

http://youtu.be/E4HOr6Qob7A

Similar to yesterday’s defense except that the kicker stays put so my counter must adapt for that.

As I kneel, I drop my palm heel into the top of his incoming foot.  I straighten up. At this point, as my attacker remains stationary but drops his kicking foot to the ground, I advance with a half step and counter with my own front kick. Then I withdraw with my guard up.
