4th Grip using an Overhand then Backhand Combination

The video show how to practice these blows.

It does not show how to use them.

These are broadly wielded strikes.

They require a lot of practice to become proficient (and a lot of maintenance as well).

The Jab

This simple punch is a really vital part of my arsenal.

It looks like nothing but it really quite powerful.

The main point I want to emphasis today is the snap of the hand.

I do not wind up; I punch from where I am.

I do snap out with my Forefist through the target and back.

4th Grip: Forehand Swing with the Cane

A simple enough matter.

The video show enough to get started.

The doing is the thing.

A New Heavy Bag

I am back today with my new freestanding Century Wavemaster Heavy Bag.

It has several settings that allow me to adjust the height but I have left it at the lowest one.

I have also covered up the upper part with a combination of cardboard and duct tape (black).

This is to keep the surface unmarred.

This also means any striking I do with either my shoes or with my short staff are done here.

The long bag by Fairtek will be used only when I am either bare foot  or with boxing gloves.

High, Low, Centre Punches from the High Guard

Similar to yesterday’s drill except I start from the ‘High Guard’.

These do not look particularly powerful but looks are deceiving (in this case).

High, Low, Centre Punches from the Low Guard

Simple enough…

I start with one hand out and the other on my hip.

I drive my punches out as I pull my recoiling hand back.

The harder my withdrawing hand recoils; the more powerful the punch is with my other hand.
