This combination is a Horizontal Forehand Swing followed by an Underhand Backhand Swing. Both can be done light or hard.
This is a drill that emphasizes training at kicking distance. The broad swing of the cane (even lightly) are very similar to the same sort of timing one would use in kicking, as well.
It is important to be aware and train with the likelihood that the distance between adversaries can change in an instant. It would be unwise to be caught by surprise.
