Slide in Front Snap Kick

I use the top of my foot and drive thru my target.

The idea is not to ‘try’ to kick or ‘try’ for power.

I just step in and snap the kick out quickly, smoothly and easily.

Blocking with the Cane in the 12th Grip at Punching Range

Again, this is not the ‘Ideal Range’ for this grip on the cane.

However, Blocking a punch to the face at ‘Punching Range’ is quite possible.

Basically I wave the end across as I show in the video.

The challenge is to be able to do this at speed…

Striking with the Cane in the 12th Grip at Punching Range

While not the ‘Ideal Range’ for this grip on the cane; striking with it at ‘Punching Range’ is quite possible.
There are several different methods I demonstrate.

The actually do not look like much un til contact is made…

The Cane in the 12th Grip: The Ideal Range

*Note: I am not a big fan of changing grips during a conflict. It can be done but in my opinion: how I am gripping the cane going in is how I am going to be gripping it coming out.

**All that being said, each grip has advantages and disadvantages and each should be tested and trained.

The grip I am demonstrating today is the 12th Grip.

One hand is in the middle and the other near the hook.

Both thumbs are toward the end (not the hook).

The ‘Ideal Range’ is at the same range I can execute a Front Kick or Offset Kick at.

This grip can be used closer or further out but this ‘Kicking Range’ range is the most versatile.

Inside Hooking Block

This is another ‘Old School’ Blocking Drill.

The video shows the ‘how’.

The idea is to give the opponent a target (in this case the chest).

Then I knock the incoming arm aside at the last minute.

Rising Block

This alternate arm drill is done with just the limb moving.

I snap my forearm up and drive into my opponents arm as he punches for my head.

My other arm retracts to the waist in preparation for a follow-up counterpunch.

Block/Check/Counter

This defense is used to guard the head and torso against a heavy punch.

In each case:

I use my Lead Arm to Block.

I then use my Rear Arm to ‘Check’ (hold the attacking limb in place).

This is followed up by my Lead Arm now counterpunching.

Double Block to the Side

This block uses both Knifehands and a hip torque to srive into an incoming looping Punch to the head.

It does not look like much but in this case; looks are deceiving.

Today I am using two different blocks to guard against one punch.

I use my Rear Arm to snap out a torquing wrist ‘Outside Forearm Block’ with my forearm.

Then I use the my Lead Arm to drive upward with a torquing wrist ‘Rising Block’..

A Fourth Same Limb Blocking Drill

Again, it is the height of the blocks that changes with today’s drill.

This time I am going in the opposite direction from the Third Limb Blocking Drill

I use my Lead Arm to snap out a torquing wrist ‘Outside Forearm Block’ with my forearm.

Then I use the same limb from the finished position of the block.

I drive in the opposite direction and guard my lower torso with a torquing wrist ‘Downward Foot Block’ with my forearm.

Again, these blocks complement each other, they are used for different targets at different heights.
