The Seventh Grip Angled Block then Counters

http://youtu.be/NR_Rrh0fvvU
Almost the same as yesterday’s drill.

This block also covers my torso against a punch to my body, just a bit further over.

I grip my cane in the middle (the seventh grip).

This time I execute an angled block and return the cane to my hip (as shown).

I use my other arm to counter punch.

I follow the punch with a forehand strike with the cane and reset.

The Seventh Grip Mantis Block then Counters

 http://youtu.be/KML9XN_vn90
Like yesterday; I start in a forward bow with my cane in my lead arm at punching distance.

Unlike yesterday, this block covers my torso against a punch to my body.

I grip my cane in the middle (the seventh grip).

This time I execute a mantis block and return the cane to my hip (as shown).

This allows me to follow up with a second counter.

Only then do I use my other arm to counter punch.

I follow the punch with a forehand strike with the cane and reset.

As I have said; the entire drill is as much about moving the cane around as it is about conflict.

The Seventh Grip Outside Block then Counters

http://youtu.be/t-jO0e3vyfA
Like yesterday; I start in a forward bow with my cane in my lead arm at punching distance.

I grip my cane in the middle (the seventh grip).

This time I execute an outside block and then I use my other arm to counter punch.

As I punch I pull my can back to my hip with my palm up (as shown).

This allows me to follow up with a second counter.

The entire drill is as much about moving the cane around as it is about conflict.

Again, the main thing that has changed is the block itself; I knock the attacking limb to the side today.

A Sixth Drill with the Cane in the Fifth Grip

http://youtu.be/dRA36oyvlvI
Again, this is similar to yesterday’s drill; ecwpt  that this time I use the end of the hook.

Basically I stand sideways and drive the end the hook (of the cane) into the bag in a high, low center pattern.

Again, it is highly unlikely that an attacker will stand there and trade blows with me when I am cross checking.

But I must maintain my balance whether I make contact or not.

A Fourth Drill with the Cane in the Fifth Grip

http://youtu.be/NMoNH6cwF8w
Basically I stand there and cross check to bag in a high, low center pattern.

It is highly unlikely that an attacker will stand there and trade blows with me when I am cross checking.

But if I am unused to countering with a cross check, the move will unbalance me.

This drill allows me to keep my balance and poise whether I land the blow or not.

A Third Fifth Grip o the Cane Drill

http://youtu.be/-VU85rMig9Y
I use only the hook and end this time.

As shown, this is a high, low, center striking drill using only the hook and the end of the cane.

Simple enough, this drill is best understood when done (many times).

A High, Low, Center Fifth Grip on the Cane Drill

http://youtu.be/rNhhR6yY9y8
Cross check the bag at high.

I follow up with a low strike with the end into the side of the bag.

Center hook into the other side of the bag.

I make sure the bag is where it is supposed to be, even if I have to wait for it to get there.

A Fifth Grip on the Cane Drill

Cross check followed by either end slamming into the bag.

The idea is to hit hard and fast but not so9 hard as to break the cane.

Inside Edge Kick then Follow-ups

http://youtu.be/JZCPXuvunWk
I slide forward and kick my attacker in the shin with the inside edge of my lead foot.

I then kick to the body with my other leg.

I drop down and follow up with two punches.

Only then do I withdraw.

Foot Sweep then Follow-ups

http://youtu.be/joTzENXxK4U
I start in a Forward Bow.

I use my rear leg to sweep my attacker’s lead leg.

Ideally he will simply be unbalanced for a second (and immobile).

Then I use my other leg to kick him in the groin.

I follow that with a punch to the head.

Then I withdraw.

Side Kick then Follow-ups

http://youtu.be/S0U3dpOnk5o
This is a variation of what I did yesterday.

I start in a Leading Horse.

I step forward and execute a Side Kick with my lead leg.

I come down and Backfist with my lead Fist.

This time I turn forward (and step slightly to the side) to punch with my rear arm.

Again, all three strikes happen at the same distance.

And again, The first two are a ‘ba-bang’ rhythm, while the rear arm thrust punch is a big heavy shot that has to be set up to land.

A Third Four Punch Drill on the Heavy Bag

http://youtu.be/pONXFqwrMS4
Two punches high followed by two punches to the midsection.

This is done over and over on both sides.

When the bag swings away as I punch, I follow up.

If the bag remains stationary, it shakes and rattles with the impact.

A second Four Punch Drill

http://youtu.be/BYCnHg6wn2I
Again, I face the heavy bag in a Forward Bow at knuckle distance.

This punching drill is meant to combine four separate punches into one drill, just like yesterday’s.

This is NOT a blitz attack nor should it be regarded as one.

These are four distinct punches that happen to follow one another.

The sequence is the opposite of yesterdays; low, high, high, low.

This is done again and again on both sides.

Angled Block with Cane and Follow-ups

http://youtu.be/At9k76xJJrQ
Again, the defense is very similar to yesterday’s drill.

This is also done from a Forward Bow.

I snap my Cane down in an Angled Block as I punch to the head with my other arm.

I make it a point to move the cane across before I punch; therefore I am less likely to strike the cane with my own fist accidentally.

I then drive the cane out as a thrust with the blocking part of the cane (the part near my hand).

I alternate between thrusts with the fist and the cane.
