Front Snap Kick

I am demonstrating this kick from Neutral.

I use the top of my foot.

The kick looks like nothing.

It is only when contact is made with the 70 pound bag that the power is apparent.

The Jab with Angled Block

This is similar to all of this week’s drills.

I Counter with my lead Jab as I block with my rear hand using an Angled block.

Outside Block with Simultaneous Jab Counter

I start with both hands held high and apart (as shown).

I use my rear hand to block a punch to my face (as shown).

At the same time, I drop my lead fist down (out of the way).

I turn this dropped fist into a punch to the body.

Actually takes more time to explain than it does to execute.

The Jab

This is a most simple strike.

It is the easiest to use.

But it should be practiced regularly anyway.

Mantis Block then Counterpunch

This is very similar to yesterday’s drill.

However, I use a Mantis block instead.

It looks like nothing until I make contact.

Outside Block then Counterpunch

Once again, I punch as soon as I finish blocking.

Another version of this is sometimes called ‘Knifehand Block from Across’.

Inside Block then Counterpunch

I guard my chest with an Inside block.

Then I immediately strike out with a Forefist Thrust.

There is no pause between block and the punch.

Rising Block then Counterpunch

I ‘ride’ the block in to a counterpunch.

In other words, there is no pause between the end of my block and the beginning of my punch.

Crossdownward Block and Counterpunch

I block and punch to my body.

If the attacker stays there, I will be in range to punch (after the pause).

If he pulls back after the punch, I shuffle forward and snap out a front kick.

Mantis Block and Counter

Again, my rhythm is 1 2 3.

I block.
I pause.
I counter.

I could counter with a punch.

Today, I pull back to a ‘Crane’ as I pause.
I counter with a Front Kick.

This presupposes my attacker stays at punching range (perhaps to punch at me again).

Outside Forearm Block and Counterpunch

Again, between the block with one arm and the punch with the other, is a pause.

Today I am ‘checking’ with my blocking arm.

Ideally, this should have the effect of monetarily holding an attacker in place.

This will then allow me enough time and distance to punch him.
