Backhand Knifehands

Today I am executing a Backhand Knifehand.

I am doing this two ways.

First I keep my torso still.

Second I turn my torso into the target.

Sometimes this is known as ‘reverse rotation’.

The Position of the Withdrawing Hand to The Low Guard Position

There is a small difference here based on age.

When I was younger I pulled the arm back further.

Now, not quite so far.

The main reason is to keep the elbow and the forearm close to the body.

4th Grip on the Cane and The Three Distances

There are 3 distances I can swing my cane at when held in the 4th grip.

The furthest is kicking distance.

Then I move in a bit and I am now swinging at punching distance.

A little bit closer and I am at elbow striking distance.

I use the same horizontal swings for all 3 distances.

The Cane using Diagonal Swings

Today I am practicing ‘Diagonal Swings’ with the tip end low.

This is the same as yesterday only the cane tip starts in the low position.

I start in the 5th grip.

I perform an underhand diagonal backhand swing with one hand.

Then I return the cane to the 5th grip with an overhand diagonal forehand swing.

Then I repeat.

In both swings, at a certain point, I rotate my hand to allow the cane to finish the swing.

It is just before this point that I would make contact

Notice that this looks like a nothing move until I actually make contact (with the bag).
