Another Drill with Block and Counter from the 5th Grip

I defend against a punch to the body this time.

I start facing sparring partner at punching distance with the cane across my body in the 5th Grip.

Swinging the tip across my stomach, I deflect the punch to the side.

I rechamber and crosscheck to the chest (this stopping any forward momentum).

Again, this is followed by a swing with the point to the side of the head.

As I have stated before:

The real danger in applying this drill in freesparring is twofold.

I am close enough for my sparring partner to smother my cane with his free hand.

I am so close that I am vulnerable right from the start.
