The Forehand Knifehand is a big heavy blow that can finish a fight if it lands. The slight quick block that deflects an attacker’s incoming punch is an excellent initial move to ‘pave the way’ for the Forehand Knifehand.
While I wouldn’t strike from the ear with it, I would have y hands up and as I swung the Forehand Knifehand, it would pass through the ‘ready position’ of the hand by the ear.
